This is our 4th project for these particular clients and our first with building contractors, Coddington Constructions.
The site is a beautifully positioned north facing block, located opposite the bower surf break at Manly. On a clear day views from the site stretch to Longreef and beyond. The brief calls for a home suited to a work at home couple, their three YGen sons (and girlfriends), future grandchildren and a very large extended family. It is also important that the house is connected to the garden and multiple outdoor spaces for family gatherings. Our response is a home which opens to the ocean, views and sun to the north, whilst providing more private spaces to the south, and a cool space during summer, protected from nor-easterly.
The house utilises the thermal mass of concrete floors and cavity brickwork to stay warm in winter and cool in summer. The three finely crafted folded timber roofs respect both the scale of the street and ocean promenade, enhance public domain views and complement the built and natural setting of this unique place.
The house is currently under construction.
