Taylor House
Our clients for this project have set the challenge for us to design them a quality house for at least 20% less than the most cost effective house that we have designed to date. We are very excited by the challenge and very much appreciate our client's willingness and desire to explore the use of inexpensive materials - of fair-faced concrete block, plywood and corrugated steel.
We have selected reverse block veneer construction to deliver a high quality/ low cost building with enough thermal mass to provide our clients with thermal comfort on each floor in both summer and winter.
The site falls north-west from the street, and overlooks a wooded valley of eucalypts and tiled roofed houses. The existing house - a fairly butchered bungalow can not be economically altered to suit their needs.
The new house is split over three levels to make the most of the northerly aspect and neighbourhood views, and provide a level of separation between the children and adults of the family.
