The cruciform plan of this weatherboard weekender deals with conflicting site conditions - strong and often chilling winds, as well as stunning Pittwater views to the south-west, a deep but relatively narrow site (and Council planning controls). The "arms" of the crucifix allow the ground floor living rooms and twin double bedrooms on the first floor to take maximum advantage of the water views as well as the northern winter sun. The body of the crucifix deals with the depth of the site. A centrally located stair and double height window make the building a passive sun catch. A family room with slot views of the water opens onto a north facing grassed courtyard. The use of simple weatherboard and rough hewn sandstone reflect built history of the Pittwater region. The copper roof and general quality of construction will see the building become part of that history.
