Designed for a young expatriate family, this house is intended for use for one to two months of the year, as a beach house and as a meeting place for a larger extended family.
The site is set on the sandy wooded lowlands behind the beach. Large eucalypts, angophora, and paperbarks pre-dominate. Front and back yards are generally unfenced, and Brush Turkeys (Alectura lathami) are a common sight.
The house presents an unassuming front to the street, and an open and blurred indoor/ outdoor threshold to the rear. Winter sun is captured via slot courtyard to the north-east. External materials - timber and fibro - are typical of the area. Internal planning allows different age groups to spread out and converge.
