This project came to us via one of our senior architects, Adrian Tarrant, who is a skydiver and skydiving instructor in his spare time. Indoor Skydiving Australia asked us to design a simulated indoor skydiving centre.
Vertical Wind Tunnel technology imported from the United States forms the backbone of the building. Our focus was on making the flight chamber as visible as possible; from within the building, from adjacent public spaces, and from passing cars and trains. A 9.5 metre tall hangar-like space forms the entrance and lobby.
This unique project, if built, will be a first of its kind in Australia. There are several existing and very successful operations in the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
