recycled spotted gum, rock maple veneer on plywood
Where possible we like to recycle materials demolished from our projects. Many older buildings have very fine Australian hardwood timber joists, beams and rafters. Others may have Douglas Fir or Radiata Pine. Regardless, each as its own quality; reveals its former use, how it has been fixed, and signs of insect attack. The qualities of these timbers are often best brought to light in furniture and joinery.
In this project, in order to insert new bathrooms into the Victorian terrace, we removed some floor and ceiling joists - probably Spotted Gum or Ironbark and reused them as part of a new double bed.
